IX. Appearing for the Hearing

After filing a Notice of Defense or requesting a hearing, a hearing date will be scheduled, and you will receive a Notice of Hearing on Accusation/Statement of Issues. Your appearance at this hearing is mandatory. If you cannot make a mandatory appearance, you will have to obtain a continuance from the Presiding Judge of the Office of Administrative Hearings. Do not simply fail to appear.

When you arrive at the Office of Administrative Hearings, you should check the posted listings to determine exactly where your case will be heard. If retained, I will meet you outside of the specified hearing room before the hearing. Please go into the hearing room, as some judges check to see if you are there. If I am retained, your case will usually not be called until I arrive and notify the judge that we are ready to be heard. If you become lost and cannot find the hearing building or the hearing room, or do not see me and become concerned, please call my office at (818) 999-9871. I strongly recommend that you dress for your hearing as you would for a job interview, that is, in formal business attire. You may receive greater respect, courtesy and even leniency if you make a favorable impression.
